Thurston’s CAC suspension gets mixed online feedback

Posted

Thurston County’s announcement of the suspension of its rent assistance contract with Community Action Council of Lewis, Mason & Thurston Counties (CAC) elicited various reactions on its Facebook page.

Comments on the post range from concern for the program beneficiaries; doubt of the veracity of the county’s statements; to outrage; either from the county’s allegations against the CAC or how public funds were lost to “frauds and cheats.”

Davina Moon Bludd and Mary Watt expressed their disappointment over the incident, with Bludd saying “Wonderful!!! So much for our appt. on the 1st!!!” with mad face emojis, and Watt replying “I had just applied to (sic).”

Asking on veterans’ behalf, Kelly Woods asked if the suspension also applied to veteran assistance which the CAC also gave, also asking if this impacts all of Thurston County since CAC is the coordinated entry for the veterans.

“There should be no impact on Veterans and assistance they receive from CAC or on coordinated entry,” answered Thurston to Woods’ thread. “Family Support Center for South Sound holds the coordinated entry contract with the county and they will continue to work with CAC on coordinated entry.”

The county also answered Theresa Lantz’s concern for an alternative for providing help for those in need, saying they are currently working as quickly as they can to have a system in place.

As of 4:30 p.m. The post has been shared 50 times, with 70 shocked reactions, 17 thumbs up, 12 sad faces, and four angry faces.
