The Thurston Economic Development Council has a new face leading its business hub.

Ashley Whitley has been promoted to Director of the Center for Business & Innovation (CB&I), the council's primary home for entrepreneur and small business support.

Whitley previously served as program manager for the Washington Center for Women in Business (WCWB), a CB&I program connecting entrepreneurs to training, technical assistance and funding access.

"Through her leadership, WCWB expanded its impact across Washington state, empowering business owners and strengthening entrepreneurial ecosystems throughout the region," said the EDC in a statement issued on Wednesday, June 24.

In her new role, Whitley will oversee the Washington Center for Women in Business, the ScaleUp business acceleration programs, the Lacey MakerSpace and a range of business advising, technical assistance and training programs serving entrepreneurs, manufacturers, government contractors and growing companies.

She will also lead strategic planning, program development, grant administration, fundraising and partnership efforts with federal, state, local, educational, tribal and private sector organizations to expand access to entrepreneurial education, innovation resources, government contracting opportunities, workforce development and capital readiness programs to help businesses launch, grow and scale.

The Thurston EDC described CB&I as entering a new chapter amid increasing demand for business support, innovation resources and workforce solutions.

"Ashley's proven leadership, collaborative approach, and passion for helping businesses succeed make her uniquely qualified to guide that growth and expand the Center's impact for years to come," said the EDC.

This is the part of the EDC that actually does some good for local residents rather than harming the environment and driving up taxes.
