Thurston County woman shot dead by boyfriend

A 21-year-old Thurston County woman was shot dead by her boyfriend in a Lacey apartment complex early this morning.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) said the incident occurred just after 2 a.m. at the Copper Wood Apartments near Martin Way. Sheriff’s deputies found a female resident dead with a gunshot wound when they conducted a welfare check.

Authorities checked on the woman after the 25-year-old Pierce County man admitted to a member of his family that he shot and killed his girlfriend. His family then called law enforcement.

The man was detained without incident in Graham by the Pierce County Deputies, transferred and then booked into the Thurston County Jail for second-degree murder. Authorities have not yet identified him as he has yet to be formally charged. The firearm used in the crime has also been recovered.

The woman’s family has been notified of her death according to the Sheriff's office. 

“This is an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the public at this time,” the TCSO said on social media.
