A Thurston County man was critically injured after being struck by a car running a red light while walking through a pedestrian crossing.

The man, 31, was hit at the intersection of Martin Way E and Duterrow Road SE early morning on Saturday, November 5, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO).

Witnesses said the man was crossing the road when an eastbound black sedan ran the red light on Martin Way, hitting the pedestrian.

The vehicle continued east without stopping after hitting the man, witnesses said, adding that the car accelerated right before it entered the intersection.

The pedestrian was rushed to the Providence St. Peter Hospital with critical injuries, authorities said.

The TCSO said the black sedan has significant damage on the bumper, grill and windshield. Those with information about the incident were urged to email detectives@co.thurston.wa.us.

“We are asking for help from our community in locating the fleeting vehicle and identifying the driver,” the TCSO said in a news release.
