Thurston County Food Bank's Thanksgiving efforts

Thanksgiving fixings were distributed in a drive-through model on Monday and Tuesday

As the holidays approach, we are reminded of the profound impact a helping hand can have during the toughest times.

Around this time last year, a client came to the Thurston County Food Bank for the first time. Her husband had recently passed away, leaving her not only grieving but also struggling to make ends meet. With no food in the fridge and the steep rise in food prices, she found herself for the first time reaching out to the Food Bank for assistance. The support she received not only helped her through a difficult time but also inspired her to give back. With a renewed sense of hope, she found purpose as a loyal volunteer of the Food Bank.

The week of Thanksgiving, the Thurston County Food Bank offers individuals and families in our community boxes of ingredients and food items to prepare and compliment a holiday meal.

Throughout the month of November volunteers and staff worked tirelessly to pack a variety of shelf-stable goods along with fresh fruits and vegetables to be distributed Monday through Wednesday the week of Thanksgiving. With each prepackaged box, new and returning clients also received a choice of either a turkey or a chicken, with a vegan option available as well.

Thanksgiving fixings were distributed in a drive-through model on the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving in Olympia, Lacey, and at several satellite food distribution locations throughout Thurston County. Volunteers also personally delivered boxes to the homes of older and disabled adults.

For over four decades, the Thurston County Food Bank has offered holiday assistance without requiring income verification or identification, made possible by our generous community. This year, we proudly served over 2,500 families and individuals.
