Thurston climate group looks to fill three open seats

Posted

The Thurston Climate Mitigation Collaborative (TCMC) is calling on community members to join its Community Advisory Workgroup (CAW) and contribute to the region's goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

TCMC is a partnership between Thurston County, and the cities of Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater.

The CAW is seeking applications to fill three open seats. This group of up to 15 community volunteers meets 10-12 times yearly to provide perspectives and feedback on climate mitigation progress and priorities.

Their input directly informs the work of the TCMC's jurisdiction partners, staff team and executive committee, as they implement strategies outlined in the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan.

"The CAW is not intended to be a technical workgroup, but rather a collection of community voices," stated TCMC, adding it is looking for individuals who can represent personal perspectives on climate actions.

Members serve three-year terms with the option to reapply, while youth members may serve shorter terms to accommodate their schedules.

To ensure accessibility, the TCMC offers a $50 per meeting compensation option.

The TCMC emphasized that while CAW members may share insights from affiliated groups, they do not officially represent any organization in their capacity as CAW members.

Interested community members have until Jan. 31, 2025, to submit their applications.

I'd love to join and help wind down this organization and the entire climate change scam.

You can help by JUST MINDING YOUR OWN DAMN BUSINESS. Adults with Brains and an Intrests will be Working to Aleviate Property Damage and Possiably Loss of Life. If you Have ANY Conclusive Proof That Climate Change Is A Hoax Proove It OR MOVE IT!

    PUTO.

Okay Southsound guy - let's look at it another way. Of course climate change is NOT a hoax - but even if the predictions are off a little bit - the work that is being done to slow greenhouse gas emissions is helping many people. For example, retrofitting homes to be more energy efficient and installing heat pumps will save the resident money and make the home more comfortable. People who have appropriate heating and ventilation are much less likely to end up with respiratory problems. With lower heating bills, they can spend their hard earned money on important things like food and education.

I suppose you can come up with some argument that these things are wrong, but I think these are win-win programs.

We should leave the world in better shape than we found it. Working to prevent a climate disaster is the right thing to do for future generations.

Great point KarenM. Some have a profound Fear of Change. Thanks for the positive angle.

lol ok whatever, you prove it. Here are a couple links:

Basically, physics and chemistry preclude the BS notion that CO2 is a driver of climate change. We should have more CO2, not less. I will not mind my own business while silly communists steal property and kill our civilization in pursuit of lies. I am not a carbon based tax unit, despite the best efforts of liberals.

Heat pumps are not a good idea in this area. My neighbor said his heat pump unit runs all day in the winter but adds little heat to his house. His gas furnace is much more efficient and costs less, so don't be a loser or install a heat pump.

All heat pumps are not bad or wrong simply because one unit does not work properly. Coordinator - your neighbor should have their heat pump checked by a professional. It should be providing heat to the home. It could still be on warranty. We shouldn't make broad conclusions from one experience.

Ok so you found ONE heat pump that doesn't work, so all of them are bad. I have a heat pump and it works great. Removed forced air furnace and my electric bill dropped dramatically. So now you have an example of one working, but i have a suspicion that won't change your mind.
