South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) received the ACT Impact & Success Award, which recognizes commitment to advancing student achievement and expanding equitable access to education.

The honor was presented at an awards dinner on May 7.

“This award reflects SPSCC’s deep commitment to student success,” said Dr. Timothy Stokes, SPSCC President, in a statement. “We are proud of the work our staff and faculty have done to remove barriers, strengthen pathways, and ensure every student has the support they need to achieve their goals.”

SPSCC stated in a news release that it has implemented strategic, student-centered initiatives over the past three years.

“Programs, such as the required College and Career Success 101 course, high-touch advising, and the IGNITE program, have strengthened persistence. Expanded wraparound services through the Personal Support Center — including emergency housing, food access, and essential resources — have helped remove barriers to success,” the news release states.

SPSCC’s Personal Support Center provides child care and parent support classes, emergency support for housing, food, assistance paying rent and utilities for students, who are in need of services.

The school has also provided opportunities for adult learners through flexible course offerings and industry-aligned programs like I-BEST and the Residential Construction Academy.
