The South Puget Sound Community College Music Department announced a series of concerts will be performed by students this month.
The concerts are being held at Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts main stage, with a $15 a suggested donation at the door. Entrance is free for South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) students, staff and faculty.
The deparment will first present Choirs classical and modern holiday music at 7: 30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5.
The program is going to feature works by Benjamin Britten, Chiara Margarita Cozzolani, Gabriel Fauré, John Rutter and a tribute to the late Quincy Jones, as well as the Timberline High School Chamber Choir, under the direction of Terry Shaw.
The Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Nickolas Carlson, will present Clippers and Saints at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6.
“The orchestra is joined by the Saint Martin’s University Wind Ensemble, conducted by Laura Harper. The orchestra will play Brahms buoyant Academic Festival Overture and the first symphony written and published by an American woman, Amy Beach’s 'Gaelic' Symphony. This symphony is full of passion and evokes the iconic landscapes and cultural richness of Scotland,” said the college in the announcement.
The last concert, Fall Jazz, is a celebration of the end of the fall season with the SPSCC Jazz Band and Jazz Combo at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
