The FC Olympia Artesians are heading to the USL W League playoffs after battling to a 0-0 draw with Salmon Bay FC at the Regional Athletic Complex in Olympia on Friday, June 27.
The Artesians needed to win or draw against Salmon Bay in order to qualify for the playoffs. The match featured plenty of back and forth action with FC Olympia goalkeeper Faith Nguyen, a senior at Texas Tech, making a number of big saves to keep the Artesians playoff hopes alive.
The draw wrapped up the USL W League Northwest Division championship for the Artesians, marking the third time in three years the team has won the title.
“It was always going to be good soccer and be a tough match up,” said FC Olympia head coach Kellyn Green in a statement from the team. “But we’re excited to do this at home in front of our fans and raise our level of play.”
FC Olympia now heads to Stockton, California, for a playoff match against Utah United. Utah United won the USL W League Mountain Division title and finished the regular season with a 9-1 record. FC Olympia finished with a 7-2-1 regular season record.
The playoff match starts at 4 p.m. on the Fourth of July at Saint Mary’s Stadium in Stockton.
