Signage, speed bumps to be installed on Burbank Avenue NW in west Olympia

Posted

Traffic mitigation work is going to make navigating a portion of the west side of Olympia a little more difficult for motorists in the days ahead.

Freeman Bell Construction & Development will be performing the work, which includes installation of signage and speed bumps on Burbank Avenue NW east of Divistion Street, Milroy Street NW and 24th Avenue NW.

The work, which is scheduled to start on July 20 and run until the end of the month, is part of the RJD West Olympia housing project, said the City of Olympia Public Works Department in a construction and traffic alert on July 14.

Residents will have access during the construction period, though traffic impacts are expected daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For questions, contact Freeman Bell at 360-972-4394 or City of Olympia Construction Inspector Kris Carpenter at 360-753-8721.

After Olympia residents requested better mitigation for traffic resulting from a new development, the developer was required to install additional sidewalks on Milroy Street and traffic calming on Burbank Ave NW. The West Olympia Development at 2000 24th Ave NW (also known as the Cedar Bay plat) is an approved 30-lot residential plat and infrastructure project. The developer was allowed to encroach into a wetland buffer zone but had to reduce the number of lots. Once this pre construction is complete, it will be sold to major home developer. The coyotes have moved on. Their chorus of voices will be missed. But the deer remain to eat all ornamentals.
