Seven Saints lauded in GNAC Baseball All-Conference Team of the Season

Despite missing out the championships in this season’s baseball, Saint Martin's University has something to celebrate as seven players from the Lacey-based baseball squad were named in the 2024 Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Baseball All-Conference Team announced Wednesday through their website.

Leading the Saints lauded in the selections was Colin Driscoll, who was the only Saint named in the First-Team All-Conference while being honored as the GNAC Pitcher of the Year tied alongside two other awardees.

Driscoll topped the stats for all GNAC pitchers this season with a 3.17 ERA and a .219 opponent batting average while racking up 58 strikeouts through 71 innings and went the distance three times towards compiling a 5-5 record. The senior right-hander is just the second Saint Martin’s player in conference history to earn Pitcher of the Year honors with the first being Joe Silva in 2003.

Three senior staples were also selected in the GNAC baseball all-conference Second Team, which included Dylan McLaughlin, Austin Schaler, and Trevor McCorkle.

McLaughlin got the selection after his impressive .325 batting average, 49 hits, and 24 RBIs, while Schaler’s defensive skills in the outfield, .284 batting average, and 22 RBIs earned him the nod, and McCorkle was the last Saint in the All-Conference Second Team with the designated batter hitting a .348 batting average and 18 RBIs.

Peter Hollabaugh, Mark Steward, and Justice Yamashita made the list as All-Conference honorable mentions. Hollabaugh, a freshman, had a breakout season as a utility player while seniors Steward and Yamashita each made their third time on the All-GNAC list in their collegiate careers.

“We are proud of these seven guys for receiving the honors that they deserved.” said SMU baseball Head Coach Kelly Gau.

SMU baseball will enjoy its offseason to rebuild with the number of departing seniors to vie in the pro ranks and are expected to come back stronger for next year’s baseball season.
