After a national search, Saint Martin’s University announced the appointment of Javier Clavere as the institution’s next provost and vice president of academic affairs.
Clavere, who holds a doctorate in musical arts, currently serves as dean of the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at the University of the Incarnate Word in Texas. He will start his new position at Saint Martin’s on July 1.
“Clavere brings extensive experience in academic leadership, with a focus on thoughtful innovation and interdisciplinary programs that connect ethics, the humanities and emerging approaches in higher education. He has a strong record in curriculum development, faculty support and institutional planning,” said the university in an announcement about the hiring.
Saint Martin’s said Clavere prioritizes student success, faculty development and the creation of mission-aligned academic programs to prepare students to lead meaningful lives and contribute to the common good.
Clavere also serves as Executive Director of the Semiotic Society of America and is a licensed TEDx organizer, where he has presented internationally as a keynote speaker, including in Brazil and Argentina.
"To be welcomed as provost through a national search is an incredible honor, but more than that, it feels like a convergence of purpose. Saint Martin’s commitment to the sacredness of the individual, the strength of community and the integration of faith, reason and service echoes the very work I have devoted my life to. I come with deep gratitude and a strong sense of responsibility to steward this mission into its next chapter." said Clavere in a statement.
A committee comprised of representatives from the Board of Trustees, Saint Martin’s Abbey, faculty and staff groups led the national search, which started in January.
