The Washington State Department of Enterprise Services (DES) has announced road closures and traffic advisories for this week’s Capital Lakefair.

The fair kicks off this Wednesday, July 17, and continues to Sunday, July 21, at Heritage Park and the West Capitol Campus.

Water Street SW, on the east side of Heritage Park, will remain closed until Monday, July 22.

Deschutes Parkway SW will be closed from Lakeridge Drive SW to Fifth Avenue SW on Friday, July 19, from noon to 10 p.m. and Saturday, July 20, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The advisory also cautioned about increased parking demand, noise, and pedestrian and vehicle traffic at the West Capitol Campus during the Lakefair Parade at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, and the fireworks show at 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 21.

Lakefair turns 67 this year with a parade, main stage entertainment, non-profit food vendors, arts and crafts, a car show, and a fireworks show.

Organizers anticipate that an estimated 200,000 visitors will attend the festivities.

It is unfortunate that these traffic closures coincide with extensive road work on the west side, which is creating delays and one-way traffic on a lot of major thoroughfares, with massive slow-ups. In other words, a total mess in terms of getting around in Olympia. Did the right hand know what the left hand was doing??
