Parking-lot racer crashes after "45-50 mph" unlicensed drive

A Tumwater man was cited for recklessly speeding through parking stalls and crashing into a another vehicle which was also moving illegally through parking stalls at a Lacey Wal-mart on April 30.

A witness had flagged down a Washington State Trooper on-scene detailing that he had seen a green car driver speeding at “about 45-50 mph” through the Wal-mart parking lot at 1401 Galaxy Dr NE, then had crashed into a small red truck.

Police say Michael Zimmaro drove his Nissan Altima into the red truck, then fled the scene and returned. Zimmaro told one of the witnesses that upon collision, he ran from the Altima fearing that it would explode.

The driver of the red truck had “what looked like a pretty significant injury.” He told a Lacey police officer that he was “creeping through the (parking) stalls” to get over to the next lane. The red truck’s driver was having difficulty moving his neck, arm and sustained scrapes to his head and arm.

Zimmaro told Lacey Police that he was late meeting up with a friend and didn’t see the red truck.

Zimmaro was issued a criminal citation for driving with license suspended and operating a motor vehicle without insurance. On April 23, 2021 Zimmaro had been arrested by Lacey Police on a Simple Assault and Harassment charge in a separate case.
