Overnight closure for section of Capitol Way S in Olympia

Posted

A stretch of Capitol Way S in Olympia is going to be closed to thru traffic, including emergency vehicles, starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20.

The street is scheduled to reopen at 5 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 21.

"This closure affects Capitol Way S between 14th Avenue/Sid Snyder Avenue and 15th Avenue," said the City of Olympia in a construction and traffic alert.

"The closure supports ongoing construction on the Capitol Campus Pedestrian Bridge and will allow crews and equipment to remove the center span of the bridge."

Detour routes for motorists and pedestrians will be in place. People are advised to follow signage and use caution when traveling in the area.

The consideration of alternate routes is advised, if possible.

Work on the removal of segments and rebuild of the Washington State Capitol Campus pedestrian bridge started last week. The work on the $1.2 million project is expected to continue through mid-October.
