Commuters and residents in the DuPont and Joint Base Lewis-McChord area are encouraged to take advantage of an online open house on expected construction projects, hosted by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
The open house, which runs from August 31, 2023, until the completion of the project, offers valuable insights into the upcoming three-year construction project on Interstate 5 at Steilacoom-DuPont Road.
The infrastructure project aims to upgrade a section of I-5, accommodating more than 140,000 vehicles daily.
The online open house and blog let commuters see an overview of the infrastructure project, including the expansion of High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes on northbound I-5 from Mounts Road to 41st Division Drive, the extension of the southbound I-5 HOV lane to Center Drive, and the new Steilacoom-DuPont Road overpass that spans I-5 and railroad tracks.
Interested individuals can access the online open house and blog 24 hours a day, everyday, from now until the project’s completion.
Free WiFi access is provided at DuPont Pierce County Library at 1540 Wilmington Drive and Steilacoom Library at 2950 Steilacoom Boulevard for those who wish to access the online open house.
Additionally, temporary internet access is available at various locations across the state for individuals without broadband service, find the nearest drive-in WiFi hotspot at this site.
As construction activities encompass approximately five miles of I-5 in Pierce County, WSDOT emphasizes the importance of road work zone safety. Commuters are urged to slow down within construction zones, show kindness to construction workers who are working hard to improve roadways and ensure safety, stay focused and not to use mobile phones while driving, and to expect heavy traffic by leaving earlier than usual and allow extra travel time.
