Olympia School District proclaims Feb. 2-6 as Black Lives Matter at School Week

Posted

The Olympia School District declared Feb. 2-6 as Black Lives Matter at School Week in a move aimed at teaching students and community about racism and the lived experiences of Black people.

At a Jan. 22 regular board meeting, members of the Olympia School District Board of Directors took turns in reading a proclamation to declare support for the national Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action.

“Students have the right to live unapologetically Black and this position does not need to be qualified. Desiring freedom and justice is a prerequisite for advocating for the social, physical, and mental wellness of themselves and others,” said Board President Jess Tourtellotte-Palumbo while reading from the proclamation.

“The (board) calls on all district staff to teach with the resources, and engage in professional learning, grounded in the 13 Guiding Principles of Black Lives Matter at School,” said District 4 Director Hilary Seidel while reading from the proclamation.

The board encouraged educators, students, families and staff to incorporate 13 principles into their discussions about race and privilege all year long.

The principles are restorative justice, empathy, loving engagement, diversity, globalism, queer affirming, trans affirming, collective value, intergenerational, black families, black villages, unapologetically black and black women.

According to the proclamation, the principles will help realize the district’s Student Outcome 4, which states: “Our students will have the skills, knowledge and courage to identify and confront personal, systemic and societal bias.”

Nice to see trans-affirming listed as a principal that OSD is supporting. I wish Tumwater would follow their example.

    Let's get history right.

Would there ever had been slavery here if it weren't for the first slave owner, a black man, Anthony Johnson.

Johnson came as an indentured servant, as did many, from Africa or the Barbary Coast pretty much. He worked off his servitude and then owned his own property, yes, with indentured servants. One of those tried to go to work for another so Johnson sued him. The judge ruled that Johnson owned him for Life, the first slave, a black man to a black man.

Johnson began buying and selling slaves to his family and friends. Then expanded to the native Americans, whites and others.

Then north only allowed slavery for 10 years. When a white Republican freed the slaves, thousands of black families owned slaves. The natives owned tens of thousands of slaves.

About 300,000 whites and 20,000 blacks from the north gave their lives to end slavery in this country during the Civil War.

Indentured servants and slavery are still alive around the world. With illegal immigration, modern day slavery and human trafficking are at about record highs. Where do they live? Where do they work?

Let's get history right. I remember in the 60's that there was a rush to find a black leader. In came MLK. My Canadian relatives laugh and ask who had more orgies than him? Gotta love our history.

Scary stuff here --- "The board encouraged educators, students, families and staff to incorporate 13 principles into their discussions about race and privilege all year long. "

Modern school systems have always been about indoctrination to support the state and to foster state power, not to think independently and be self-reliant. OSD schools serving the apparatus well.

Scary stuff indeed, most of America learning all this glop just encourages further societal strife which only makes people more reliable on the system designed to control them. Will from this point always vote against giving any tax dollars to the OSD.

This is a desperate push by the remnants of the Liberal Order. This anti-white trend (along with all the other *****, trans, etc. trends) are dying off. It will take awhile, and we will have to listen to Snevets and Boatyard along the way, but the world will come back to reality.
