The Olympia Metropolitan Park District (OMPD) Board discussed a proposed $5,321,573 OMPD budget for next year during a special meeting on Tuesday, November 1.

Last October 5, the Olympia staff presented the figure to the OMPD Advisory Committee, which will impact the 2023 levy rate.

“Our estimated revenue would bring our levy rate [is] down to 45 and a half cents per 1000. In the past years, it's been around 54 cents per 1000 of assessed value and the rate is going down because the assessed values going up,” Parks Planning and Maintenance, Parks, Arts, and Recreation Director Sylvana Niehuser said.

Niehuser’s statement refers to the $0.10 less of the $0.455/1000 levy rate for 2023 compared to the current levy rate of $0.545.

“There was also a letter from the OMPD advisory committee in support of this proposed budget and it goes over the compliance with the interlocal agreement,” Niehuser explained.

The board prompted the staff to prepare a budget resolution to be approved during the next meeting on November 15.
