Fire department leaders in Olympia and Lacey were recognized for their support of employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve.
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve recognized three Olympia Fire Department (OFD) leaders and four Lacey Fire District 3 (LFD3) leaders, according to separate statements from the two fire agencies.
OFD Chief Hillary Flowers, Battalion Chief Matt Gantenbein and Battalion Chief Mark Schreck received recognition for their support of National Guard and Reserve service members, said the department on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
OFD said deployments and activations can create scheduling conflicts for service members working at the department. The three leaders also help military members remain current on required training.
“Our chiefs were honored for going above and beyond to back our National Guard and Reserve service members,” the Olympia Fire Department said. “From seamlessly managing last-minute scheduling conflicts caused by deployments and activations to ensuring our members stay current on required training, they have strongly upheld military policy at every turn.”
In Lacey, LFD3 Chief Jennifer Schmidt, Battalion Chief Ryan Perz, Capt. Martin Ranney and Battalion Chief Tim Hulse were recognized for their assistance to LFD3 members with military service obligations.
LFD3 said in a statement released on Thursday, Sept. 10, that its support also includes assistance for families of service members when military duty calls.
“We’re fortunate to have people on our team who serve our community here at home while also serving our country,” said LFD3 in a statement. “Making sure they and their families are supported when duty calls is something we’re proud to stand behind.”
