Nisqually Middle School was under heavy police presence after the school received a shooting threat via phone on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at about 1 p.m.
According to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) news release, a caller claimed that a shooter was present at the school, prompting the school to contact law enforcement.
Upon receiving the threat, the school immediately implemented lockdown procedures as a precautionary measure.
The TCSO School Resource Officer was already at the school while while additional law enforcement units flooded the area.
“The school was immediately locked down, however the threat did not materialize,” TCSO stated.
Despite the absence of immediate danger, precautionary measures continued to be implemented.
The school transitioned from lockdown to lockout status, with heightened security measures remaining throughout the day.
“There will be a heavy police presence at the school for the rest of the day as we run security details for staff and students,” TCSO said.
Parents picked up their children individually at the front entrance of the school, while bus operations will continue under the escort of sheriff's deputies to ensure the safety of students during transportation. Notifications with further details were emailed to parents.
The investigation remains ongoing in collaboration with federal partners to determine the source and credibility of the threat.
