Motorists are being encouraged to add more travel time to their trips because of nighttime closures to northbound Interstate 5 ramps between Maytown and Tumwater.

The closures, which take place from Monday, Aug. 18 to Friday, Aug. 22, are needed to accommodate roadwork crews.

"Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will repave sections of roadway and make drainage repairs," said the City of Tumwater in a construction notice and traffic alert on Sunday, Aug. 17.

The following is the schedule for roadwork on northbound Interstate 5 (I-5) from Trosper Road Southwest to Maytown Road Southwest:

  • Single lane closures begin at 6 p.m.
  • I-5 reduced to a single lane by 10 p.m.
  • All lanes reopen at 6 a.m. each following day.
  • Saturday morning, lanes reopen at 9 a.m.

"The northbound I-5 on-ramp from eastbound Trosper Road Southwest will close from 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, until 6 a.m. each following day. Saturday morning, the ramp reopens at 9 a.m.," said the City of Tumwater in the alert.

"A signed detour will direct drivers to the next nearest ramp. The work schedule is subject to change."
