New member sought for Lacey Commission on Equity

Posted

The City of Lacey is accepting applications for a vacant position on the Commission on Equity (COE).

The commission works to improve community representation and widen public participation in local government.

The appointee will serve the remainder of an unexpired term ending on Dec. 31, 2028. Applicants must live within Lacey city limits or the Lacey Urban Growth Area (UGA).

According to the city, the COE identifies opportunities to create a more welcoming and inclusive community. The panel also continues discussions on race and equity, and seeks greater participation from underrepresented community members.

In addition, the commission identifies gaps or barriers that may prevent people from fully participating in local government and public policy.

To help reduce financial barriers to public service, Lacey offers advisory board members a $50 stipend per meeting, up to $500 annually.

The payments can help cover child care, transportation and internet access for meetings, as well as other costs of service. The city said the stipend also aims to increase representation in government.

The city will conduct its first review of applications within 30 days of the Oct. 28 recruitment notice. Community members interested in the seat can submit an application here.
