New Hawks Prairie Timberland Library to open Fri., Feb. 18

Timberland Regional Library’s grand opening for its newest location in the Hawks Prairie area of eastern Lacey is set for Feb. 18 at 10 p.m.

City of Lacey Mayor Andy Ryder and Timberland Regional Library (TRL) Deputy Director Kendra Jones will provide remarks during the grand opening of the new location at 8205 Martin Way, Suite B in Lacey in the Hawks Prairie Shopping Center at the southwest corner of Marvin Road and Martin Way.

“We are thrilled to be opening a new library location in Hawks Prairie and our staff are eager to welcome in the people of the community,” Jones said.

After Ryder and Jones make their remarks, TRL will hold an official ribbon-cutting of the new location. Special giveaways will be available throughout the day while supplies last.

At about 2,500 square feet, this new TRL branch will:

  • Offer the newest and most in-demand books and movies.
  • Debut unique services and materials such as Vox books, two-in-one audio and print books designed to help young children with literacy development.
  • Breach the digital divide with quick computer reservations, printing services, and free WI-FI.

Hawks Prairie Timberland Library is the second installment of a three-year pilot project implemented by TRL of what the organization calls “Lucky Day Libraries.” The first of these pilot branches to open was the West Olympia Timberland Library in Capital Mall.

Patrons and guests who visit the TRL Lucky Day locations can enjoy a modern atmosphere and energetic layout that allows for quick browsing and computer use.

Lacey Timberland Library Manager Holly Paxson will also be the manager for the Hawks Prairie location.

There has been a need for a TRL library in Hawks Prairie for a while, Paxson said, at least as far back as 2012 when Paxson arrived to take up the library manager position at the main Lacey location.

"The community was talking about how much a library location in east Lacey was needed,” Paxson said. “I'm so excited to finally make the fulfillment of this need a reality with our new Hawks Prairie Timberland Library."

For more information on library hours and services, patrons should visit the locations page on TRL.org or contact their local library.
