GENERAL ELECTION EARLY RESULTS

Neck and neck, many near ties in the Thurston County General Election

An estimated 20,000 ballots still to be counted

Posted

With an additional estimated 20,000 ballots left to count, no local or county-wide races are decided.

At 5 p.m. today, 51,893 ballots have been tabulated, according to the Thurson County Auditor's office.  These represent the ballots of 26.38% of the 196,717 registered voters.  These ballots represent an estimated 62% of the total anticipated in this election.

Of the 77 candidate positions on ballots throughout the county and cities, only 35 are opposed; 42 incumbents are running unopposed, mostly in races for school boards, fire districts and cemetery commissions.

Nearly 58% of voters whose ballots have been tabulated have voted yes on the proposition to approve a .2% increase in the sales and use taxes assessed for transactions in or shipped into the county. But with some 38% of the anticipated ballots waiting to be counted, it's too early to declare that the measure will pass.

Here are the results reported tonight:

It looks like Mr. Ballard's dream will not be fulfilled this time. He'd have to garner 70+% of the remaining votes to win. He's currently holding firm at 40% so it seems unlikely. The other county wide contests are too close to call, for sure.

I did read somewhere that Jon Pettit managed Terry Ballard's campaign, so no real surprise here. I have yet to see Mr. Pettit launch a successful campaign of any kind. He ran in the primary for county commissioner in 2018 and came in 6th of six contestants. He also had a hand in Bud Blake's unsuccessful campaign for a County Commission seat in the next election cycle. Maybe ranching on his 53 acre spread will now beckon. The voters don't seem to be enthused by his message.
