Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) arrested two suspects who were arrested in connection with a dead body found inside a burned vehicle in the Grand Mound area last April.

On April 12, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office located a burned vehicle near Randle that contained a body in the trunk, according to a TCSO news release.

An investigation into the incident led Lewis County deputies to believe that a homicide occurred in Thurston County’s Grand Mound area and was given to the TCSO on April 20.

Last Friday, July 14, one of the suspects was booked into the Thurston County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Five days later, another suspect was arrested and booked on the same charge after a brief pursuit with Centralia police.

TCSO said, “the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are possible.”

In a comment on a Facebook post by TCSO, Sheriff Derek Sanders clarified that the victim was not Shane Barton, a Thurston County man who has been missing since March.
