Motorcyclist killed in Bald Hill Road collision, hit and run driver yet to be identified

A 54-year-old Thurston County man was killed in a collision on Bald Hill Road SE early Wednesday morning.

In a social media post, the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched to a collision between a car and a motorcycle in the 12900 block of Bald Hill Road SE around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Evidence gathered at the scene suggests that a Volkswagen Golf entering a curve crossed the centerline into the opposing lane, hitting a motorcycle, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The reporting party said they heard the crash from their home and found a motorcyclist down and unresponsive. The motorcyclist was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The witness told authorities that the driver of the Volkswagen got into another vehicle and fled southbound on Bald Hill Road.

The Sheriff’s Office sought the public’s help in identifying the driver. The vehicle has been impounded and will be processed for evidence linked to the suspect.

A photo of the Volkswagen Golf showed that it was dark blue with a black hood.

Authorities said they were also interested in information about the driver of the vehicle that picked up the suspect from the scene. Tips can be emailed to detectives@co.thurston.wa.us

    A tragic but true adage I've learned year after year is that it isn't spring in Washington (or at least Thurston county) until at least one motorcyclist has been killed in a wreck. Every single year. It's awful.
