Meet the candidates tomorrow at New Life Baptist Church

New Life Baptist Church is hosting a meet-and-greet event for voters and would-be voters in Thurston County tomorrow, Saturday, October 19 at New Life Baptist Church, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Unlike other election events, this one is set up like a fair, in a large room circled with tables for each candidate. Voters are invited to approach the candidates with questions.

Volunteers at the church will also be registering people to vote.  Candidates who have committed to participate include:

U.S. Congress, District 10

                Marilyn Strickland, Democrat
                Don Hewitt, Republican

Washington State Senate, District 22

                Jessica Bateman, Democrat
                Bob Iyall, Democrat

State Representative, District 22, Position 2

                Lisa Parshley, Democrat
                Syd Locke, Democrat

Thurston County Commissioner, District 1

          Carolina Mejia, Democrat
          (position is unopposed)

Thurston County Commissioner, District 2

             Rachael Dreon, Democrat
            JW Foster, Independent

“We are not endoring candidates; this is a non-partisan event,” according to Thelma Jackson, the event’s organizer.

New Life Baptist Church is located at 7838 Pacific Avenue SE in Lacey.
