A 36-year-old man was arrested following an alleged theft incident at Home Depot at 1325 Fones Road SE in Olympia on Friday, June 13.
The man, identified by police records as Joey Beaver, was found exiting the store allegedly carrying several bags containing merchandise he concealed and did not pay for while inside.
According to the Olympia Police Department, store personnel observed the suspect inside the store behaving suspiciously around 9:30 p.m. on June 13. His activity included climbing shelves and filling bags with tools and other items.
Staff reported that the suspect moved throughout multiple aisles, placing merchandise into his bags before making his way to the front checkout area.
While he appeared to pay for some items, police say additional goods were found hidden in his bags.
Responding officers stopped Beaver as he exited the store. A search reportedly uncovered over $1,100 in unpaid merchandise, including Milwaukee tools and saw blades.
In addition to the tools, police recovered a magnetic security tag removal device from Beaver’s pocket, which can be used to remove security tags from items so as not to trigger the store alarms.
It was later discovered that the suspect was involved in a 2023 theft case in Tumwater after investigators ran the serial number on the tag removal device.
“I pulled the Tumwater case up in CAD and it is listed as a warrant arrest. Beaver was listed in the Tumwater case as the arrestee and notes in that call indicated he had admitted to theft of items,” an Olympia Police Department officer stated in a report.
Officers also located other items that did not belong to Home Depot, including a camping tent later confirmed to be stolen from a Cabela’s store. The tent was valued at more than $470.
A plastic smoking device and a small container with an unidentified white residue were also found in his possessions, the report states.
Beaver was taken into custody at the scene and booked into Thurston County Corrections Facility on suspicion of retail theft with special circumstances.
Additional charges may be considered pending review of the recovered stolen property.

Appreciate the perp pix. If I happen into him out shopping, I'll be his new best buddy until he is out the door or out the door in handcuffs.

Not that you should steal, but if you feel the need, 9:30pm is not the time to do it. 11 AM on a Saturday, 8 AM on a Monday, etc. A busy time when every associate is 3 customers deep and trying to get a pallet pulled. Not when the store is almost empty and you have the entire freight crew in working their first carts of merchandise.

Can we get some real news, please? This recent surge in crime reports on Jolt is unnecessary, as they are everyday happenings already posted on the OPD Blotters that anyone can subscribe to and read. We all already know that crimes happen here. Broadcasting crime bits is just laziness. Instead, try an analysis on local crime statistics. But ultimately, please report on real news in the community. There are plenty serious issues as well as positive ongoings to report.
