A 53-year-old man was arrested following an alleged knife attack that left another man with an ear injury on Saturday, June 14, according to the Olympia Police Department.
The incident took place around 11:07 p.m. on June 14 in the 1200 block of Leavenworth Avenue NE in Olympia. Officers were dispatched to the residence after receiving a report of an assault involving a knife.
When responding officers arrived, they found a man outside the home with a bandage on his face. The bandage, which was wrapped around the left side of his head, was saturated with blood.
Emergency responders determined the victim had suffered a significant laceration to his ear, and then advised transporting the man to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia for treatment.
According to an Olympia Police Department report, the altercation began after an evening out at a bar where tensions had surfaced between the two men.
The victim told police that the suspect, identified in the report as Anthony Hedgers, became increasingly agitated over the course of the evening, reportedly upset after being removed from the establishment earlier in the evening.
The suspect went to the victim’s residence and allegedly attacked him with a folding pocketknife during an argument.
After the assault, Hedgers fled the scene in a Jeep Cherokee driven by his brother. Authorities were alerted and attempted to locate the vehicle.
Law enforcement eventually made contact with Hedgers' brother, who admitted to having picked him up earlier in the evening.
The brother later cooperated with authorities and provided voice messages sent by the suspect, which helped lead police to the his location behind a credit union on Galaxy Drive NE.
Officers located Hedgers hiding behind a dumpster in the area and took him into custody without incident.
“A black folding knife was located inside of a card board box, that was sitting on top of other garbage, in the dumpster Tony (the suspect) was laying behind,” the Olympia Police Department reported.
Cleaning wipes showing what appeared to be dried blood were also recovered nearby.
Hedgers was transported to the Thurston County Corrections Facility and booked on suspicion of first-degree assault with a deadly weapon.

Can we get some real news, please? This recent surge in crime reports on Jolt is unnecessary, as they are everyday happenings already posted on the OPD Blotters that anyone can subscribe to and read. We all already know that crimes happen here. Broadcasting crime bits is just laziness. Instead, try an analysis on local crime statistics. But ultimately, please report on real news in the community. There are plenty positive ongoings to report.
