An art exhibition on a crisis in American democracy, "Resistance: The HeART of the Matter," is nearing an end in Olympia.

The free exhibit will close on Saturday, Oct. 31.

Local grassroots organization Olympia Indivisible, in cooperation with Olympia Art Gallery, opened the exhibit on Oct. 14 to feature artworks by artists from across Western Washington and Oregon.

“We invited artists of all disciplines and media to explore the challenges facing our democratic systems — our hope was to educate, motivate, and activate a change in direction, not through violence but by waking us up and changing our hearts,” said curator Melinda Holman in a news release from Olympia Indivisible about the exhibit.

The exhibit will also have a spoken word evening on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., where local poets will share work revolving around nonviolent resistance, with beverages and snacks for attendees.

The exhibit is at Olympia Art Gallery, 121 State Ave. NE. Interested individuals may drop by Wednesday through Saturday, from noon to 7 p.m., and Sunday, from noon to 5 p.m.
