The City of Lacey named former Lacey Historical Commissioner Seth Huff as Historian of the Year for 2022.

In his acceptance speech during the May 5city council meeting, Huff paid tribute to Lacey's history-makers as he pinned hope on the future generation.

"I accept this award for all who hear my voice as a reaffirmation to protecting Lacey's historical landscape," said Huff.

"Let our story inspire the next generation of innovators, educators, and civic leaders,” Huff added.

Huff also expressed optimism about the ongoing construction of the Lacey Museum and Cultural Center.

"We as a community are working on a museum and cultural center that some say cannot be done," Huff said. "It will be finished."

Huff, who became part of Lacey's Historical Commission in 2017, also paid tribute to the contributions of the late Shirley Dziedzic in preserving Lacey's history. Dziedzic, who passed away last month, was the first awardee of Lacey's Historian of the Year in 2022.

Meanwhile, Parks and Recreation Director Jennifer Burbidge applauded Huff's contribution to the Historical Commission and the upcoming museum and cultural center.

"He doesn't do anything in a minimal way," said Burbidge. "He always puts his heart and soul into everything he does."

Lacey Mayor Andy Ryder thanked Huff for his dedication and volunteerism in the community.

"I think Seth is a great example of why Lacey is a great community," said Ryder. "It's because of people [like him] who volunteer and give back to this community."
