Lacey’s Commission on Equity seeks community input

Posted

To promote inclusiveness in the city, Lacey’s Commission on Equity (COE) seeks public input for its Community Engagement sessions.

To support the newly formed commission, COE will hold two engagement sessions in the month of November. Interested residents may participate in-person at Lacey City Hall, 420 College Street SE or online through Zoom.

Meeting schedule are as follows:

  • Mon., Nov. 15, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Sat., Nov. 20, from 2 – 4 p.m.

Those who are unable to attend may submit their written comments at ci.lacey.wa.us/LaceyEquity. The results of the discussions will help the new commission to formulate their short-term and long-term goals in developing a more equitable and welcoming community.

About the Commission on Equity

In January 2021, the city passed an ordinance to establish a commission to help identify and address issues of inequity. The commission is responsible for suggesting policy improvement to the city council and encouraging more inclusive activities.

The Commission consists of seven adults and one youth member from the Lacey Youth Council, who may serve two consecutive terms. Each general member will serve a three-year term while the youth member will serve the commission for a period of one year.
