Lacey Design and Construction Manager Ashley Smith said there are 10 ongoing utility and transportation projects in the city and there will be six upcoming more for this year.

During the Lacey Transportation Committee meeting on Tuesday, June 6, Smith briefed the committee on the updates regarding the ongoing projects.

Lacey’s first elevated reservoir and water projects

For the construction of Terry Cargil Reservoir on Telco Loop, Smith said Phoenix Fabricators was awarded $8,456,619 to complete the project by the first quarter of 2024. The Terry Cargil Reservoir is set to be the first elevated reservoir in the city.

Smith said the city awarded $6,562,091 to SCI Infrastructure to replace the water main, sewer force main and sewer gravity main along Golf Club Road.

Road and utility projects

The Carpenter Road improvements and the Overlay Utilities, both funded by the Transportation Benefit District and Water Utility, are part of the ongoing projects. Smith reported that paving is scheduled early July for the former, and construction for the latter is expected to be complete by mid-summer of 2023.

Smith also reported a material delay on service cabinets for the construction of 12 electric vehicle charging stations, and work is expected to resume this month.

The construction manager also reported that 10 intersections within the city will undergo system upgrades for traffic detection.

Other ongoing projects include Sleater Kinney and Pacific Avenue signal pole relocation or replacement, Mullen Road sewer improvements, Beachcrest Wellfield PH improvements and Lift Station 19 replacement.

For the upcoming projects this year, Smith listed the overlay projects (including those with Utility work), crack sealing, sidewalk repairs, Ruddell Road pedestrian crossing and the Regional Athletic Center parking lot and frontage improvements.
