Lacey City Council proclaims November as Veterans Appreciation Month

Veterans and military families are at the center of a citywide recognition in Lacey.

The city is paying tribute to their service through Veterans Appreciation Month in November. At the same time, community groups are opening new doors for veterans through local events and resources.

A proclamation was presented at the Lacey City Council meeting on Monday, Nov. 2. It recognizes the sacrifices of members of the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine, including members who died defending their country. The proclamation also honors the families who served with veterans.

The city acknowledged that many veterans face overwhelming unknowns. According to the proclamation, community partnerships can help former service members access resources. The city also encourages community members to support veterans and their families.

“Through their commitment to freedom, our veterans have positively impacted millions of lives and made our country and the world more secure, and the City of Lacey resolves that their sacrifices will always be remembered,” the proclamation states.

Hire Heroes USA Program Manager Dave Martinez accepted the proclamation and thanked the city for its continued support of the Lacey Veterans Services Hub.

Martinez said the facility provides an important resource for veterans in the region. He also compared it with the services he has seen in other parts of the country.

“That is an amazing resource available. I’ve been in a lot of different places around the country, and that’s a unique resource you’ve made available to the veterans in the region,” Martinez said.
