Lacey City Council launches 'Coffee with Council' outreach series

The Lacey City Council is opening a new avenue for public engagement next week with the launch of its quarterly "Coffee with Council" series.

City Manager Rick Walk said in a statement on Thursday, July 16, that the initiative expands opportunities for community members and council members to connect. Residents can meet with council members, discuss city issues, and share feedback outside of regular council meetings.

The first event is scheduled for Thursday, July 23, from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at Cutters Point Coffee, 5831 Lacey Blvd. SE, near the Lacey Post Office.

Council members Lenny Greenstein and Maren Turner are expected to attend. They will be available to answer questions and speak with attendees. The event is free and open to the public, no RSVP is required.

Walk added that no formal agenda or presentation is planned, allowing residents and business owners to guide the discussion.

“Whether you’d like to learn more about (city) projects, ask about local services, or simply introduce yourself, we invite you to stop by. Just grab a cup of coffee and join the conversation. We hope to see you there,” Walk said.

I love this idea and hope it continues. I am not an early morning person so might not make it at 7 am. I do hope you vary the coffeeshops this is held at each month. The owners of Cutter's are known as active in an evangelical church that may be difficult for some LGBTQ folks to feel comfortable attending. By switching where it is held each month throughout Lacey introduces folks to more businesses also. Thank you for finding creative and welcoming ways to meet and know our council members.
