Knife-wielding man attacks Olympia police, shot dead

A man armed with a knife was shot dead by Olympia police after he allegedly attacked officers, the Olympia Police Department (OPD) said earlier today.

Preliminary information released by the OPD indicated that an officer-involved shooting occurred at about 10:30 a.m. today near the intersection of Sleater Kinney Road and Martin Way.

A man wielding a knife was shot by one officer after he allegedly attacked police who were trying to arrest him in connection with a crime.

Multiple media reports state that the man died after he was rushed to the hospital for life-threatening injuries. Officers were also treated at the scene for injuries.

The Capital Metro Independent Investigations Team will probe the incident. Composed of detectives from the police departments of Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, and Yelm, the team was formed to conduct independent investigations on incidents involving police officers.
