Joint Base Lewis-McChord will have day and nighttime mortar, demolitions, and artillery training from Sept. 5 at 8 a.m. to Sept. 15 at 11:59 p.m., it said on its social media page.
“Noise from this training is frequently heard in the surrounding communities, especially those closest to the impact area," the base reported on its website.

While the noise may be a nuisance, remember that there are numerous endangered prairie species, such as birds, mammals and insects that depend on disturbed soil and fires for survival. Artillery training helps maintain the prairie habitat and helps prevent forest encroachment.
