JASCOM to host no-fee adoption events and 'Santa Paws'

‘Bring home a friend for the holidays’

The Joint Animal Services Commission (JASCOM) said it is gearing up for a series of events this month, aimed at finding homes for animals and bringing joy to pet owners during the holiday season.

The events were announced during the commission’s monthly meeting on Monday, Dec. 9.

JASCOM Director Sarah Hock explained that there is a fee-waived adoption event, which is sponsored by a grant from the Best Friends Animal Society, through Dec. 14.

The event, which is at the Animal Services in Olympia, aims to increase pet adoptions by eliminating the usual fees, making it more accessible for potential pet owners.

“We (seemed) to have some really good success in our adoption events since summer,” Hock shared. “A lot of people like the idea of bringing home a friend for the holidays.”

JASCOM is also partnering with Yelm Farm and Pet for another dog adoption event on Dec. 14.

Hock also announced that one of the most anticipated events of the year, "Santa Paws," is set to return on Dec. 21 and Dec. 22.

“Pet parents can bring their furry, feathered, or scaly companions to meet Santa Claus and capture the perfect holiday photo,” the invite to the event states.

Hock also shared that the same JASCOM volunteer who played Santa last year, and even created his own suit, will be returning for the role again this year.

This volunteer is skilled in understanding dog behavior, according to Hock.

With high demand for this festive fun, JASCOM recommends reserving a spot to ensure every pet gets a chance to join.

Earlier this month, JASCOM also partnered with OlyWines for a unique wine-tasting and kitten adoption event.
