THURSTON PETS PROJECT

Introducing the Thurston Pets Project in The JOLT

Posted

Just wanted to invite you to look for our new weekly column dedicated to the happiness that is brought into our lives by our magnificent pets. (Mostly dogs and cats, promise!) Much of what we plan to cover is about how we can return that joy to them by giving them the wonderful life the animals in our care deserve.

We will be talking about rescue shelters in Thurston County and other local topics, including health tips and resources, grooming, food, treats, toys, dog parks, special notice of pet-related events and additional tidbits, too. We hope you will enjoy it.

Ratapalooza!

After a pandemic break, Ratapalooza! is back. It’ll be held this Saturday, May 18 at the Thurston County Fairgrounds in the Sokolik building, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It’s presented by the RatsPacNW Rat Fancier’s Club, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit that helps promote the education and love of the fancy rat!

Before COVID, the club had multiple shows a year but this will be the first one since 2020 and it’s right here in Lacey.

This promises to be a fun, family-friendly event that includes a rat show (much like a cat or dog show), a cage decorating contest, vendors with rat-related merchandise, a raffle with all kinds of donated prizes, a rat art show (my personal favorite) and a craft table where kids (and adult kids!) can create their very own rat ear headband!

Admission is $5 per adult; kids 5 and under are free. For more info, visit their website at ratapalooza.com or their Facebook page

If you’ve never been to one before this a great pet event for kids of all ages. Hope to see you there!

About The Pet Project:  Thom Donitz and Trish Lynn are neighbors and close friends who share their love of animals and wildlife. Trish is a lifelong resident of Tumwater; Thom moved here 20 years ago. Contact them at pets@theJOLTnews.com.

Thank you! I have been wondering where my monthly PSA's from Animal Services are in the JOLT. They really don't fall under any "topic." Still looking :)
