The Intercity Transit Authority approved a contract for the development of a new parking and storage facility at the agency's Pattison Street headquarters in Olympia.
The new facility, which is part of an ongoing renovation of the headquarters, involves the conversion of a temporary structure into a permanent facility.
Intercity Transit Authority, the agency’s board of directors, met on Wednesday, March 18, to consider a $1.2 million contract between Stantec Architecture and the Washington State Department of Enterprise Services (DES), which oversees the renovation project.
The board’s action authorized General Manager Emily Bergkamp to direct DES to enter the contract, which covers design, bidding support, construction administration and project closeout services.
Jonathan Martin, a project coordinator, told the board the metal structure was built as a temporary facility amid the renovation of the primary maintenance building in the headquarters. Under the original plan, the site was supposed to become a covered parking area once the main project was completed.
Martin explained that operational needs have evolved, and the facility is now required to support parking for Dial-A-Lift vehicles and provide additional storage space for future requirements.
The board also authorized Bergkamp to sign an amendment increasing a fee schedule to $1,142,740 from $854,340.60 for managing the renovation project.
The fee is 1 percent of the total construction budget. Because the project has grown in scope and its cost increased from $86 million to $114 million, the fee schedule is being adjusted accordingly.
The increase covers additional work for the continued renovation of the maintenance building, the addition of an interim hydrogen fueling station and the conversion of the metal facility.
