Intercity Transit is purchasing $1.42 million in storage solutions for the maintenance building at its Pattison Street headquarters in Olympia.

Intercity Transit Authority, the agency’s board of directors, approved the purchases of three sets of equipment at a meeting on March 18.

The biggest purchase is $990,000 for a vertical lift module, which Procurement Coordinator Noelle Gordon described as an automated inventory system that uses conveyor belts to retrieve vehicle parts based on user input.

The agency is also buying a $285,362 stack system for storing larger parts. The equipment utilizes a pallet racking system and a forklift mechanism to haul heavy items.

The last purchase is for a $147,554 tire carousel for storing tires. The equipment uses a conveyor belt to allow maintenance staff to safely access the tires without needing to climb ladders. The purchase also covers the reinstallation of another tire carousel the agency already owns.

All of the deals were competitively bid through the Washngton State Department of Enterprise Services.

The equipment will be delivered within 12 weeks, except for the vertical lift module, which requires a lead time of 18 weeks.

Just open the market and hirer drivers who own vehicles such as Ford Transit 12 to 15 passenger vans and let the dealers do the maintenance. That way the customer service can be improved.
