Intercity Transit Authority approves installation of digital signs at Olympia Transit Center

Posted

The Intercity Transit Authority approved a $509,167 contract with Vector Electric Group LLC to install digital signage at the Olympia Transit Center.

The transit authority made the decision at a meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 18.

The signage is going to display real-time information with the objective of improving rider access, as part of a multi-phase project funded by the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Intercity Transit Construction Projects Coordinator Jonathan Martin said Vector Electric was the lowest response and responsible bidder among four companies.

It bid $462,879, which was about 1.2% below the agency’s estimate of $468,612. The approved contract amount for the company includes a 10% contingency fund.

The scope of the work is going to include the installation of underground conduits and foundations, electrical and communications systems, as well as mounting hardware and sign enclosures.

The contractor is also going to coordinate with sign vendor, Connectpoint Inc., to ensure proper installation of the system. The authority authorized a $559,884 contract with Connectpoint in February 2025 to purchase 35 digital e-paper signs.

The signs at Olympia Transit Center are being installed as part of a pilot project to evaluate their effectiveness. If the pilot project proves successful, the agency plans to install more signage in other facilities as funding becomes available.

Thank you! Currently the one single item with time information at the transit center is an analog clock! Yes, that's a clock with one big hand and one little hand. And it is has been slow by 2 or 3 minutes through most of the past 6 years! Many people seem to have some kind of nostalgia for the old days, but that clock is an embarrassment.

Sounds useful. Something else that would be useful would be some park &ride lots. Buses aren't much help if one can't get to the bus stop.
