An inmate at Thurston County Corrections Facility is in more trouble after allegedly assaulting a fellow inmate and corrections deputies last weekend.

According to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place in the jail’s G dorm when Austin Tyler Platt, 26, allegedly placed another inmate in a chokehold and refused to comply with orders to release the individual.

Corrections deputies intervened to stop the attack, leading to a physical struggle that lasted several minutes.

“The inmate grabbed and twisted the knee of a deputy under their body weight and refused to let go. A corrections sergeant also sustained a chipped tooth as a result of the fight,” said Sheriff Derek Sanders in a social media post on Sunday, Oct. 12.

The inmate, who had been originally booked on a charge of fourth-degree assault related to domestic violence, suffered injuries during the fight, including a black eye.

After receiving medical clearance at a nearby hospital, the inmate was transferred to an isolated cell for security reasons.

A responding patrol deputy later rebooked Platt on a new charge of second-degree assault and custodial assault.
