South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) is about to welcome the first cohort of graduates from the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science program, the institution’s first four-year degree.
Ten students will be presented their computer science degrees at the SPSCC Commencement Ceremony on June 13.
The inaugural graduating class consists of Thomas A. Baker, Xin Ding, Krysta L. Gallegos, Kyle Geissinger, Nils E. Julnes, Mattox Marsh, Jordan Y. McNair, Brandon A. Reeder, Marissa N. Stout and Taran H. Triggs.
Launched in 2024, the program allows students to complete all four years of a degree at the community college without the need to transfer to a university.
A news release from SPSCC states the program was designed with flexibility in mind, as it features hybrid and online coursework supportive of nontraditional students, such as working professionals and caregivers.
“This first graduating class represents the vision and dedication behind SPSCC’s expansion into bachelor’s degree education,” said Jason Selwitz, Dean of Applied Technology at SPSCC, in a statement.
“These students have demonstrated not only strong technical skills, but also a commitment to their career goals while balancing work, family, and other responsibilities. We are proud to see them cross this important milestone and look forward to the impact they will make in our regional workforce and beyond."
The program is now open for applications to the fall quarter. Qualified students may enter the program as third-year students after completing the required prerequisites.
