HAZARDOUS WEATHER ALERT

Increased threat of landslide alert for Western Washington this week

Posted

A Hazardous Weather Conditions alert with “an increased threat of landslides in western Washington” has been issued by the National Weather Service (NOAA). This is due to the large amount of rain over the last three days, increased soil moisture content, and the expected rainfall over the next several days.

The amount of rain expected “over the next several days” is expected to “put extra pressure on soil instability, leading to an increased threat of landslides.”

At this point, two landslides have already been reported, and more landslides are possible. One of the landslides is “in the Leschi neighborhood in Seattle near Union.”
