Impaired driver in stolen vehicle pursued on Southbound I-5, driver and passenger arrested

Two suspects were arrested after a high speed chase with Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) and Cowlitz County deputies last Friday.

Olympia Police Department first responded to a commercial burglary.

A TCSO deputy noticed a vehicle “leaving the area that was exhibiting signs of impairment based on driving behavior.”

TCSO stated that “the vehicle also showed to be stolen.”

The deputy then attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver of the stolen vehicle fled.

“A pursuit was initiated under reasonable suspicion of DUI (driving under the influence),” TCSO stated in a social media post.

The pursuit continued southbound on Interstate 5 (I-5) through Lewis and Cowlitz County, after which Cowlitz County deputies joined the chase and assisted.

With the law enforcements’ joint forces, they were able to spike the stolen vehicle, forcing the driver to pull over in the Kelso area.

The two occupants of the vehicle are now in custody, facing multiple charges, including possession of a stolen car, eluding law enforcement, driving under the influence, and possession of methamphetamine. At the same time, Olympia PD continues to investigate the commercial burglary.
