Elected officials, housing developers and advocates gathered on Tuesday afternoon, June 9, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Lansdale Pointe Apartments, a new 162 unit affordable housing community in Olympia.
The opening of Lansdale Pointe aims to help address an affordable housing crisis facing many people and is part of the Olympia's need to have 14,235 new housing units in place by 2045.
“Expanding affordable housing opportunities helps ensure that people of all incomes can continue to live and thrive. Lansdale Pointe strengthens our community by expanding affordable housing options for families who live and work in Olympia,” said Mayor Dontae Payne.
According to Zillow, the average rent for an apartment in Olympia is $1,624 per month.
Southport Financial Services was the developer behind Lansdale Pointe, which is its first project in Thurston County. The private developer specializes in creating affordable homes across the country.
In 2023, Southport received a combined $2.65 million to help fund the project from the City of Olympia and Thurston County.
The project also received funding from the state via the Washington State Housing and Finance Commission’s 4 percent low income housing tax credit bond program. Southport also contributed private capital toward the project.
Southport Financial Services Delopment Manager Beau Baker said he's happy with the work that his team did.
“These units came out of the ground so fast. It was an amazing effort by everyone involved. I’m so proud of everyone on the team," Baker said.
The property offers a mix of two, three, and four bedroom units. The apartments are for people earning 60 percent of area median income and below.
Some of the amenities available to residents include an EV charging station, a business center with Wi-Fi, a playground and sports court.

It doesn't say what the rent will be for these units.....perhaps an update to this article in the future?

Are you kidding me? First you say average rent in Lacey is $1624 according to Zillow, and how proud everyone is these are affordable units for low income...but hey no mention that they rent for:
$1561 for 871-958 sq ft
$1806 for 1007 sq ft
$2011 for 1177 sq ft
WHAT IS AFFORDABLE ABOUT THAT???? I'm low income. I would qualify to rent but NO WAY can I pay rent of more than what you say the average is in the county. This drives me crazy. I see every time a county has helped to fund 'affordable housing' for a developer it comes out NOT affordable, just the going normal rate or even more in this case! No senior living on a social security check could come even close to being able to rent your 'affordable' housing. They don't even make close to that in a monthly check...much less realizing they have to be able to pay utilities and EAT.

Olympia, could rename us to Scamtown. Another hyper-expensive project. Developers growing fat on the all the gravy provided by the rest of us. If CSS has the rents correct, clear why the always supportive of any public scam JOLT left them out of the article.

That is NOT affordable. That is one of my two paychecks I get in the month and I work for the State. I also have to deliver for Walmart AND Uber Eats. What happened to living in a rental that was 25% of your income??
