Thurston County residents can prepare themselves for emergencies before something happens at an upcoming community event in Lacey.
The Thurston County Emergency Preparedness Expo is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Lacey Community Center, according to a county news release on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
The Thurston County Emergency Management Council will host the expo, which is going to feature interactive exhibits and opportunities to meet local emergency responders and community partners.
Attendees can learn essential preparedness skills, including how to create a family emergency plan and assemble an emergency supply kit. Hands-on CPR and automated external defibrillator training will also be offered.
Other activities include the Child Safety Traffic Garden and Fire Safety House. Emergency preparedness activities will be available for people of different ages, and free emergency kits will be distributed while supplies last.
“Emergencies can happen at any time, but being prepared doesn’t have to be overwhelming,” said Thurston County Emergency Management Manager Kyle Bustad in the news release.
“The Preparedness Expo gives people practical tools, skills, and resources they can use to prepare before disaster strikes. Even small steps taken today can make a big difference tomorrow.”
The county says the expo suits residents at any stage of readiness. People just beginning a preparedness plan can pick up basic steps, while individuals with an existing plan can find additional resources at the event.
The Lacey Community Center is located at 6729 Pacific Ave. SE. Admission is free and open to the public.
