Explore salmon run up close at Bayshore Preserve November 9-11

Posted

Get up close with aquatic wildlife through the annual Salmon Experience at Bayshore Preserve, Saturday through Monday, November 9-11, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Capitol Land Trust (CLT) and Puget Sound Estuarium host the annual event, which will showcase the annual salmon run and let participants appreciate nature.

“Witness one of nature’s most extraordinary displays of migration and resilience. Every fall thousands of chum salmon return from the ocean to Johns Creek at CLT’s Bayshore Preserve where their lives began. Here they spawn, marking the transition of one generation of salmon to the next,” the news release stated.

Visitors can use the underwater cameras set up by the Estuarium at two salmon viewing locations to livestream the underwater phenomena.

Volunteer salmon docents will also be present from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily to lead the activities and answer visitor questions. Docents are identifiable with their bright green or orange vests.

Special events include a kid’s activity with Shelton Timberland Library, preserve tours with Capitol Land Trust, and wildlife spotting scopes with Black Hills Audubon Society.
