Experience Olympia & Beyond announced the hiring of Michael Day as its new chief executive officer.

Day, an Edmonds native, graduated from the University of Washington, and has since had a career in international tourism.

He has hosted tourists on all seven continents, but said Thurston County “offers some of the world’s most breathtaking natural beauty.”

With experience in both land and cruise-based hospitality, Day plans to increase leisure, meetings and sports tourism in Thurston County.

"From the serene base of Puget Sound to the majestic heights of Mount Rainier, this region truly serves as a bridge between two iconic landscapes,” said Day in a statement that accompanied the announcement.

”I am honored to lead the talented team at Experience Olympia & Beyond (EOB) in sharing our unparalleled scenery, vibrant farm-to-table culinary scenes, and exceptional craft beer experiences with visitors from near and far."

Prior to joining EOB, Day was a cruise director, vice president of entertainment for three luxury cruise lines, general manager of convention centers, and most recently, the corporate sales manager for North America at Crystal Cruises.

“His energy, creativity, and expertise will shine as we continue to attract new and repeat visitors to Thurston County,” said EOB Board President Sue Falash in a statement that accompanied the announcement.

“The board is looking forward to the fresh ideas and leadership he will bring to this role.”
